From the article: RSVP and How to Get a Response
We want to entertain our family and friends, but some of us are better at some parts of entertaining than others. Some hosts or hostesses love the decorating part of entertaining guests but hate the cooking; others love to show off their home bar tending skills, but cringe at the thought of organizing their home for a party; and still others like preparing for their parties, but hate the frustration of managing R.S.V.P.s. So what part of entertaining do you find most challenging and how do you handle it? Tell Us Your Challenges
Say it in English
- In some parts of the country, the term RSVP does not resonate because perhaps the majority of the population is unfamiliar with the French term. Instead of RSVP try a short phrase in proper English and you will get better results. "Please respond by 10 June -- 123 4456 phone" usually gets results for me.

Invite
- Family member obtains Masters Degree. Invites will go to family, only, inviting them to celebrate at a restaurant. How do you tactfully say they will be responsible for their own dinner? Most will know that but a few may think otherwise.

biggest challenge
- I need help! I have moved to a new community and my new friends insist on bringing food to my dinner parties, a practice that is new and alien to me. I like to plan the menu, and I don't feel right about expecting my guests to contribute to the menu or having them impose their menu contributions on me. How do I handle this?
