The Top 10 list of Entertaining Occasions and Theme Parties for 2000
|
-
Baby Showers - You sure love those little babies! And you fuss over the cakes, the favors and the recipes for the showers celebrating their arrival.
-
Super Bowl - Ah, America's excuse for being couch potatoes and indulging in the finest snack foods this country has to offer.
-
St. Patrick's Day - I don't know if it's the luck of the Irish or the green beer that attracts, but this is one of the most popular party holidays.
-
Chinese New Year - I admit, this one was a bit of a surprise for me since the event is limited to one ethnic heritage. However, there was overwhelming interest in this holiday, perhaps because it was the Golden Dragon Year in the Chinese calendar.
-
The Olympics - Whether the parties were planned to coincide with the Olympics or after, our athletes Down Under sparked lots of interest in Aussie-themed parties.
-
Cinco de Mayo and Mexican Fiestas - This theme was popular throughout the year. I'm sure it had something to do with the margaritas.
-
Tea Parties - Wow! You'd almost think that most readers were English with the level of interest in hosting tea parties.
-
Tailgating - Okay, many of you sports fans are not simply couch potatoes. You like to enjoy your sports in parking lots as well!
-
Mardi Gras - It must be the accessories that appeal to party planners. Masks, feather boas, beads, a great opportunity for adults to play dress-up. And the interest in this party theme extends throughout the year, not just around the time of the official Mardi Gras.
-
Birthdays - The little kid in us never outgrows the excitement of celebrating a birthday.
Special Mentions
A Special Mention award goes to Survivor parties. The show was the big winner last summer and many of you wanted advice on hosting a party based upon it.
Special Mention also goes to several popular themes that simply didn't make it into the Top 10. These include Hawaiian Luaus, Western parties, Halloween, and Valentine's Day.

I hope you found this list as interesting as I did. My New Year's resolution to you is that you'll find more information on these themes in the coming year, including themed dinner parties for you to enjoy with your friends.
Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts with me throughout the year. I always welcome your comments and suggestions and look forward to your mail.
