Super Bowl XLV Party Menu

Tell Guests to Come Hungry to this Battle Between the Steelers and the Packers

By

The Super Bowl is always an eagerly anticipated event, as much for the party as for the football rivalry. Fans look forward to cheering on their teams, while indulging in hearty, casual food. Along with traditional Super Bowl party snacks, I always enjoy adding recipes to the menu that evoke the hometown cuisine of both competitors.

Here are menu suggestions to salute both the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers, the 2011 Super Bowl contenders. It's going to be a very hearty menu with Amish cuisine filling up the appetites of Steelers fans, and savory Midwest cheese and sausage dishes. Tell your guests to show up with an appetite!

Super Bowl XLV Party Menu

Chicken and Corn Chowder - This is a very popular recipe in the Amish country. Serve it in mugs so that guests can move around with it, if necessary.

Roasted Garlic Cheddar Bruschetta - Don't be put off by the bruschetta in the title, these are really tasty open face grilled cheese sandwiches, perfect for your "cheesehead" fans from Green Bay.

Kielbasa with Cabbage - Serve this Polish dish for the Pittsburgh fans in your crowd. Allow your guests to make hearty sandwiches by accompanying this dish with crusty rolls. As a final touch, toss some french fries on your sandwich as the Pittsburgh locals like to do thanks to their popular restaurant Primanti Brothers.

Beer Brats(Bratwurst) - The Green Bay fans will have their own sausages at this party. I once had a roommate from Wisconsin and one of the first things she taught me how to cook was bratwurst in beer. This recipe version is even better.

Cheddar Beer Fondue - Don't forget that Wisconsin is also known for their breweries, so this recipe combines both the cheese and beer in one perfect dip. Serve with your favorite dippers like pretzels, sausages, or even apples.

Amish Soft Pretzels - A popular snack throughout the Pennsylvania region, these will be a hit at your Super Bowl Party.

Whoopie Pies - Despite its name, this fun, hand-held dessert is more like a large sandwich cookie and is popular among the Amish.

Football Field Cake - This cake will double as a table decoration and dessert.

Chocolate Football Treats - These small themed snacks will be as popular with the adults as they will be for the kids.

Assorted beverages including beer, soft drinks, coffee and tea.
