Guide Review - Quick Loaves by Jean Anderson

In her latest cookbook, author Jean Anderson sets out to prove that nutritious, delicious home-cooking can be accomplished simply, and quickly. By teaching us how to take the time, when we have it, to create our own shortcuts, Anderson attempts to wean Americans from the takeout, processed food habit. After all, why spend good money on additive-laden mixes when you can pull ready-made mixes from your own freezer? Many recipes in this book are based on do-ahead, freezable mixes for quick breads, quick cakes, and spice blends. In the infrequent cases where purchased shortcuts are required, they are for less-processed food such as frozen bread dough.

The recipes are as diverse as they are easy, and you won't tire of exploring this book to find your own family favorites. When I first received this book, I cooked three of the meat and meatloaves in one week, and each night's dinner felt completely different from the others. Whether your tastes run to the tried and true such as Chocolate Marble Cake or to the more unusual, savory Mushroom and Pecan Loaf, you're not going to be disappointed. You'll find a recipe that surprises both for its simplicity as well as the successful, tasty result.
