Guide Review - Love at First Bite, the Unofficial Twilight Cook Book by Gina Meyers

As the parent of two "Twilight" series obsessed daughters, it was inevitable that I would become a fan myself. I confess that I've read all of the books and seen all of the movies so that I could understand this craze that doesn't appear to be disappearing any time soon, and caught on to the enthusiasm. Naturally I was curious about "Love at First Bite, the Unofficial Twilight Cook Book" when it was offered for review. It's pretty much everything you would expect from a fan book, minus the drool-worthy photos of Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner.

My daughters and I have been cooking from "Love at First Bite" for the past few weeks, and though the recipes aren't particularly original, they are tied in well to the series, and have turned out "very tasty", to quote my daughters. Until I read through this book, I wasn't really aware of how much the series talked about dining in the human sense. But "Love at First Bite" author Gina Meyers does a nice job of pulling out food and eating related quotations from the books, and pairing them with the recipes. As you would expect, the recipes have been named to reflect the plot and characters of the novels. There's a recipe for Mushroom Ravioli, Bella's first meal shared with Edward; Harry's Famous Fish Fry for Bella's dad's fishing buddy; Werewolf Brew, a non-alcoholic drink for Jacob fans. Realizing that there are adult fans of the series too, Gina Meyers includes a chapter of alcohol based cocktails in addition to the non-alcoholic selection she provides for minors.

The trivia portion of this book is substantial. It will be easy to work this trivia into a "Twilight" theme party as a contest, a game, into ideas for decorating, or even invitations. But if you'd prefer to go with a ready made party plan, you'll find that here as well.

Overall "Twilight" fans will enjoy this book, but if you're not a fan it will leave you feeling as confused as Bella's dad feels throughout the series.
