With maybe one exception, these classic games have been around for decades for good reason. When you're hosting an outside party, barbecue, pool party, or cocktail party, keep these games available for casual, pick-up fun. Most everyone knows how to play them and, if not, they're easy enough to learn. Men, women, boys and girls can share the fun by joining in the play of these favorite outdoor games.
1. Horseshoe Set
There's nothing like the satisfaction of hearing the clank of a "ringer" when playing horseshoes. This classic team game can be played anywhere you have the space to put down two stakes.
2. Bocce
This is probably my favorite of the outdoor games. It requires touch, strategy, a sense of competition and just a bit of luck.
3. Croquet Set
The trickiest part of this game is knowing where to set the wickets. I usually consider this one of the more genteel lawn games (probably influenced by too much Alice in Wonderland as a child). However, with the right group of players it can be wickedly competitive and plenty of fun.
4. Badminton Set
Badminton requires a bit more energy than some of the other lawn games. I probably wouldn't set up this one for a swanky cocktail party on the patio. But for more casual outdoor parties, it's a fun team game as everyone tries to keep the "birdie" in the air.
5. Ladderball
Ladderball is a recent addition to the lawn game pack, but it quickly gained in popularity. It doesn't require very much space to set up, it's portable so you can transport it to a beach party or picnic in the park. And since it doesn't require physical ability as much as touch and a good eye, you'd be surprised at who is successful when playing this game.
6. Bean Bag and Ring Toss
These classic games are all about a steady hand and good aim. They're perfect for both young and old party goers.

This more energetic yard game will require more space than the others. It comes with adjustable net poles to accommodate different play groups.
