Stepping Stones Ice Breaker

Breake the Ice While Developing Your Team

By Donna Pilato, About.com

This tip was submitted by Aron Rutter.

This active game is a great team building and leadership exercise that helps with communication skills. It works nicely with any number of groups, with each group consisting of five to ten members. The object of the game is that each team tries to cross a marked-out area using some type of stepping stones. The stones can be things such as chairs, carpet tiles, stools etc. There is a catch, however, in that there are 30% fewer stepping stones than there are team members. In addition, the stepping stones only "work" in the marked-out area, which could be refered to as shark-infested custard, or something similarly scary. A person must always be in contact with the stepping stone. The team must cross the area bringing all the stepping stones and team members along. You could add some extra items for awkwardness. The team crossing the area in the fastest time wins.

Thanks for the tip Aron!
