Mystery Party Pockets

A Fun Icebreaker to Help Guests Mingle at Your Next Party

By Donna Pilato, About.com

This quick tip was submitted by Jill Robertson.

First, make as many "pockets" as you will have guests by sewing two rectangles of fabric together on three sides and leaving the top open. Number each pocket with a marker. Using something different for each pocket, fill the pockets with multiples of one type of item, such as buttons, cotton balls, crayons, Q-tips, etc.

As each person arrives, pin a pocket to the front of his/her shirt. The object is to try to guess (not aloud) what is in everyone's pockets. Guesses are written down by the number corresonding to the pocket's number. The person's name is also recorded. In addition, everyone can be assigned something to find out about each person, such as where they are from, their favorite food, or whatever is appropriate.

This icebreaker insures that each person is introduced to everyone else in the room, and checking out each other's pockets can lead to some interesting and amusing conversation! The person with the most correct guesses can be awarded a prize appropriate to the occasion.

Thanks for the tip Jill!
