Pirate Birthday Cake

Kaztayli
This cake was made for my son's 6th birthday party. His theme was Pirates!!
We took two long meatloaf/bread tins and put them side by side. We also baked a round cake which we cut into a half and two quarters. The half round cake was put on the stern/back of the cake and the two quarters were for the bow/front of the ship.

We iced the cake with chocolate icing and used a fork for the wood effect. We raided my son's pirate ships for rigging and crew! The sea was made from blue royal icing with blue stained sugar sprinkled over for effect, the shark fins were made from from fondant icing, and the rocks were made with left over iced cake. The island was another round cake which we cut to slope on the one side. The entire cake was iced in chocolate icing, the grass was green coconut and the sand was crushed up biscuits.

I think one of the reasons why this cake came out so well was because my husband and I had so much fun adding the little extras such as the spade in the sand on the island, the snake in the grass etc. We really got to play again.
