I made this cake for my niece's baby shower yesterday. It was a duck theme shower for a baby boy. I was going to use the special 3D duck pan, but I couldn't find one and when I looked online, I thought it was a little expensive. I decided to make square "presents" and then do the ducks. I used two rectangle pans for the bottom and top (I cut the rectangle in a square and used the leftover to cut two smaller squares for the top layer). For the middle layer, I just used two square pans. I covered each layer in white fondant and then colored the fondant blue and cut out the "ribbons". I colored fondant yellow and used a cookie cutter to cut out the ducks and used frosting to stick them on the cake. I used the Wilton #21 tip to do the blue trim with store-bought vanilla frosting tinted blue. The rubber ducks I found at a party supply store. It was my first cake using fondant, and it was a little harder than I thought to roll it out, but not as hard as I thought to smooth it out. All of the guests were amazed, everyone wanted to know where I ordered it! I told them I ordered it from my kitchen!
