These charming birds' nest treats will bring one of the classic symbols of springtime renewal to your Easter table.
You will need:
4 cups chow mein noodles
12 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 tablespoon vegetable shortening
1/2 cup of shredded, sweetened coconut, colored with green food coloring
3 dozen mini robin's egg malted milk balls or jelly beans
- Prepare by spreading a large sheet of wax paper on your table.
- Melt chocolate chips according to instructions on package. Mix in shortening and stir well until smooth.
- Pour into large bowl and quickly but gently stir in chow mein noodles until well coated.
- With two spoons lift a small ball of noodles (approximately the volume of an egg) from bowl and place on wax paper. Press into shape of a nest with a small indent in the center. Continue until you've used up noodles.
