These charming birds' nest treats will bring one of the classic symbols of springtime renewal to your Easter table.

You will need:

4 cups chow mein noodles
12 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 tablespoon vegetable shortening
1/2 cup of shredded, sweetened coconut, colored with green food coloring
3 dozen mini robin's egg malted milk balls or jelly beans

  1. Prepare by spreading a large sheet of wax paper on your table.
  2. Melt chocolate chips according to instructions on package. Mix in shortening and stir well until smooth.
  3. Pour into large bowl and quickly but gently stir in chow mein noodles until well coated.
  4. With two spoons lift a small ball of noodles (approximately the volume of an egg) from bowl and place on wax paper. Press into shape of a nest with a small indent in the center. Continue until you've used up noodles.
  5. Top nests with shredded coconut and then two eggs apiece.
