Sweet 16 Parties - Part 3

A Formal Dinner Party at Home

By , About.com Guide

Party Description

Create a formal dinner party in your home. It doesn't necessarily have to be expensive or difficult. Dress up your dining room with your best linens, china and crystal. Invest in an elegant floral centerpiece or mini rose bud vases at each place. Cook the food yourself or purchase take out meals from a favorite restaurant. Hire a couple of people to serve as butler and serving person throughout the night. Or to save on expenses, the parents can act in that capacity and dress the part.

Planning Elements

  • Decide on the date and location for the dinner.
  • Send out formal invitations.
  • Decide on menu. Perhaps shrimp cocktail as the appetizer, an elegant pasta primavera for the main course, a salad of mixed greens and blue cheese dressing, and a chocolate torte for dessert. For beverages offer soft drinks and non-alcoholic sparkling cider - all served in your best crystal.
  • Choose the china and linens that will be used for this dinner.
  • Order the floral arrangement or miniature roses to set at each place.
  • Select appropriate, sophisticated dinner music. Depending on your daughter's musical tastes, some Frank Sinatra will set the mood for the evening.
  • Purchase and wrap party favors.

Party Favor Suggestion

A small keepsake photo album would be a great favor to preserve memories of this special dinner for all your guests.
