Sweet 16 Parties - Part 2

Throw a Beach Party

By , About.com Guide

Party Description

A summertime barbecue or clam bake on the beach would be a blast for your teen and her friends. This party could be held day or night.

Planning Elements

  • Check with local officials to see if a permit will be required to host party.
  • Send invitations.
  • Plan menu. A New England Clambake typically includes clams, corn on the cob, baked potatoes, possibly lobster. For a barbecue go with the favorites such as hamburgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob, pasta salads and vegetable salads. A portable ice cream sundae bar would be the perfect summertime dessert.
  • Bring more beverages than you think you will need. If it's a hot day they may go faster than anticipated.
  • Gather the supplies needed such as coolers, grills, disposable party goods, etc. Be sure to bring enough trash bags if receptacles are not provided on the beach.
  • Bring along equipment for beach play such as Frisbees, a volleyball net and ball, horseshoes, etc.
  • If it's a daytime party, bring along enough sunscreen for all.
  • Don't forget a portable sound system and enough CD's to keep the party rocking all day and night.

Party Favor Suggestion

A beach towel imprinted to commemorate the day. The towel could say something like "Happy Sweet Sixteen 'Name' - July 19, 2001"
