At this point in the party, you can either open the presents or allow the children time for free play. There are two schools of thought on the subject of opening presents at the party. Some people believe the guests should learn to give their presents to the birthday child and the birthday child should learn the art of accepting graciously. The other opinion is that it's too difficult, especially for young children, to understand that no one is receiving or opening presents but the birthday child. In my experience, opening presents at the party can lead to emotional outbursts and chaos as all of the partygoers tear the gifts to shreds. I think it's best not to do this until children are in the later grade school years and can exert the necessary self-control to simply watch. What do you think?
