Oscars Night Party 2001

Part 1 - Choosing Your Style

By Donna Pilato, About.com

Talk about an international event. This year's Academy Award nominees for best motion picture span the globe in the settings of their stories. From Ancient Rome to Mexico to Asia to France and finally to California these five movies cover a lot of ground. They also offer lots of creative opportunities for making this year's Oscar's Party the best yet.

The first thing you need to decide is what style party you plan to host. Some people go all out and make this THE glamour party of the year. It becomes a black tie event, with caviar and champagne starting off the evening's festivities. Then you can feel as glamorous as Hollywood's finest emerging from their limousines.

You can also take the other approach and make it a very casual party, given the fact that the Oscars are held on Sunday evening. Invite your guests to come over in their couch potato best, and serve movie theater food.

The good news is that this year the nominees inspire ideas that will work for either kind of party. As always, I'll begin with ideas for Setting the Stage for your party. Next, you'll find decoration and menu suggestions that will tie into the Best Picture nominees. Finally, there's a special section with ideas from visitors to our Forum on how they like to host an Oscar's event, including tips on setting up a little wagering pool that will keep the excitement going all night.
