Entertaining in a restaurant will spare you a lot of work, but you also have less control over events. That's why you need to make arrangements in advance.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 30 minutes
Here's How:
- Select a restaurant with your guests' preferences in mind. For example, if your guests are vegetarians, don't select a steakhouse; pick a restaurant with a more diverse menu.
- If possible, visit the restaurant to make reservations.
- Speak with Maitre d' or owner for special requests such as a special table or menu.
- If you are giving a surprise party and want to serve a special cake, find out if the restaurant will prepare one for you. If you want to bring your own cake, clear it in advance with the restaurant.
- If hosting a large group, prepare placecards. Either make arrangements with the restaurant to lay them out for you, or arrive early enough to do it yourself.
- If you will have guests from out of the area, request directions from the restaurant. Most restaurants have directions with maps that you can send to your guests.
- Call the day before your event to confirm your reservations.
- Arrive before guests to introduce yourself to wait staff.
- Inform Maitre D' that you will be the person responsible for the bill.
- Pay for coat checking before guests arrive.
- Throughout meal, be aware of your guests' satisfaction with their food and service. If there is a problem, bring it up with the owner or Maitre D'.
Tips:
- Select a location that is appropriate for your event. If you are hosting a serious business meeting, choose a quiet restaurant that offers privacy.
- Purchase a good restaurant review book if you're not familiar with the restaurants in your area.
