 Tip of the Week

Look here each Monday for a new tip to make entertaining a snap.

Practical Pumpkins

Don't you just love when pumpkins begin popping up everywhere in the fall? There's something cheery about seeing that plump gourd. Here are some of my favorite uses for them:

  • Create jack-o-lanterns for Halloween.
  • Make your favorite pumpkin recipe such as pumpkin pie, pumpkin soup, or pumpkin cheesecake.
  • Serve mini pumpkins as a seasonal side dish. Cut off the top, scoop out the insides, and fill with a teaspoon of butter, cinnamon and nutmeg to taste. Replace top and bake until tender.
  • Use a pumpkin as a vase for seasonal flowers by cutting off the top, scooping out the insides and inserting floral foam that has been cut to fit and soaked in water prior to adding flowers.
  • Create a seasonal centerpiece using a small pumpkin, Indian corn, gourds and dried flowers.
  • Use miniature pumpkins as candle holders by cutting off top and scooping out insides. If necessary for safety, cut off a small slice from bottom of pumpkins to level them before adding candles.
