Etiquette 101 - Refresher Tips

Whether you're the host or guest, here are several refresher tips in table etiquette that should be followed by all. If these bring back memories of your childhood, remember, Mother was almost always right.

  • Don't talk with your mouth full. Nobody wants to see what you're chewing, nor do they want you to spit it at them accidentally.

  • Keep your lips closed while chewing. Don't drown out conversation with noisy chomping.

  • Keep your elbows off the table. It looks awkward and gets in the way of the comfort of your dining companions if you spread out your arms on the table.

  • If you don't like something that was served to you, simply leave it on your plate without commentary. Don't hurt the chef's feelings with rude comments.

  • Your bread plate is the one to the left of your dinner plate. Let's put an end to musical bread plates as everyone tries to figure out which is their dinner roll.
