Tip of the Week

Look here each Monday for a new tip to make entertaining a snap!

Plan On Leftovers

Unlike the majority of these weekly tips, consider this tip a non-entertaining tip. This is a tip to make your life easier after you've finished entertaining, the guests have gone home and all that's left is the cleanup.

Consider this. If you've just thrown a large party, your last week has been spent menu planning, food shopping, cleaning and cooking. Now, life gets back to normal, but you're probably a bit too tired from your recent efforts to expend much energy on cooking for yourself.

So do yourself a favor the next time you plan for a party. Deliberately plan to make more servings than you will need for your guests of any recipes that save well. For example, roasts can be used later in the week in stir-fry recipes. Vegetables that were served as part of a crudités tray can be tossed in that same stir-fry, or used as the base for a soup or stew.

When you do this, just be careful not to let the food you plan to save sit out for too long, or you risk spoilage and dangerous bacteria growth.

If you have a tip you'd like to share, you can now use our simple submission form. If selected, I will post it with your name in future weeks.
