Tip of the Week

Look here each Monday for a new tip to make entertaining a snap.

Challenge Your Guests to Be Daring

I think most people will agree that the point of entertaining is to share a good time with your guests. And there are many things that go into having a good time including the atmosphere, the music, the food and the drink. One of the ways to make an impression on your guests is to introduce them to a taste they've never had before, and this can be done with either food or drink.

If your guests have very conservative tastes, plan a menu that on the whole will be acceptable to them. Whether it's chicken and rice, meat and potatoes or even spaghetti and meatballs. Let them know what the menu will be so they feel comfortable and relaxed. Then choose one of the courses to introduce them to something they may never have tried before that you've discovered and think is wonderful. Maybe it's a sushi appetizer. Or prepare an unusual vegetable side dish. If you enjoy game, serve that as a main dish and build familiar comfort foods around it. Most people will appreciate the chance to try something different, and if they don't like it there will be enough familiar foods to satisfy their appetite.

Even if you don't want to be that experimental with your guests, you can still give them the experience of your discoveries by serving a new cocktail you've discovered, an unusual flavor tea you adore or even a fabulous bottle of wine. Any way you challenge your guests taste buds, it's sure to leave a lasting memory of your party.
