It's always helpful to keep a collection of recipes that can be made ahead when you prepare to entertain. That way you can minimize the time in the kitchen and maximize your time with your guests. Many desserts lend themselves to advance preparation, especially ice cream desserts that can be made several weeks in advance of your party.
MakeIceCream.com has a fun recipe for a Stars and Stripes Cake that would be perfect for serving at a President's Weekend or July 4th party.
