Don't Forget Birthday Celebrations for Adults, Too
Thursday July 10, 2008
I'm happy to say it's still birthday month. I even received my first present today, although it's a teensy bit early. As you can see, even adults (at least those who still have a little child lurking inside) enjoy being remembered on their birthdays. Even if you choose not to give a gift to the adult birthday girl, you should at least bring along a candle for them to make a wish on their day. I usually leave it to my husband and daughters to choose a cake for my birthday (they know that they can't go wrong with chocolate), but this year I plan to bake my own cake. My younger daughter has been attending "Mom" camp this summer, so we've been spending a lot more time together in the kitchen. And I can't think of a better project than to make my own birthday cake with her next week. We are going to play with a fondant icing, and I'm sure it will be delicious. If it turns out as well as I hope, I'll post the picture after my big day.

This post came at a good time. It’s a milestone year for me, and although my birthday isnt’ until December, we’ve been trying to decide what to do. Ironically, these attempts at plans have ended up making me feel bad instead of good. But I think I’ll pass along your articles to some significant people and see if I can’t turn around the emotional train wreck.
Thanks!
My birthday was the day before we left for Canada…so I spent it cleaning and packing. Not very celebratory! But…we made up for it the next day with a lovely outdoor dinner in Lexington, Mass., en route to Canada.
No matter how old you are, it’s always fun to get cards and phone calls on your special day.
I just love my birthday, and I’m 52! It’s a wonderful day to celebrate that we’re all unique creatures.
I have a friend who has a tradition of celebrating the birthdays of the people closest to her for an entire week. She starts the week before and gives a little present every day until the big day when the “real” gift is given. Fun.
Her family has a tradition of asking the birthday person if they want their song sung “good” or “bad”. lol. EVERYONE chooses bad, and the entire family sings Happy Birthday as badly as they can. It’s a riot! And nobody has to worry that they can’t sing. Perfect.
Jennifer- You should point out some of the ideas in these comments too. I love the idea of a week of birthday gifts and thoughts! I also like the good or bad song - that’s got to take off the pressure and eliminate the weak singing I usually hear at parties.
Since I always have to plan my own birthday stuff, it ends up being a nap and takeout. :>) Maybe this year I’ll plan something more exciting!
Happy Birthday!!!
My birthday is this Tuesday and I couldn’t be more excited, even though I’m pushing 30!! This year, I’m getting an ice cream cake from Dairy Queen.
I like to get ice cream cakes lately because there’s always someone at the party that doens’t like a lot of cake. With a summer birthday, you just can’t beat ice cream!!
Happy Birthday back at ya!
I know what you mean about the ice cream cakes. I always had Carvel Cakes for my birthday when I was growing up. Never had a Dairy Queen cake - may have to try one sometime this month in honor of birthday month (any excuse, right?)
