We attended a family party over the weekend hosted by family members who I consider to be among the more hospitable and experienced home entertainers I know. However, after years of throwing parties they were thrown a curve by this one. The event was a large two day open house. Many people had been invited, and they had received enough RSVP's to have a good feel for how much food would be required. But on the second day many more guests showed up than had been anticipated. Luckily the hostess had the presence of mind to know what to do in the face of empty food platters. And the party went on.
