Was There Any Excuse for My Behavior?

Wednesday November 4, 2009

Last week was a very busy week for me. I was in charge of my daughter's Halloween party at school on Friday, it was my husband's birthday on Saturday, we went trick-or-treating on Saturday evening, and ended the night with a Halloween party back at our house. On top of all that, my dishwasher was broken all week, so I was washing pots and dishes by hand. That's why I decided to make an exception to my usual style of entertaining, and purchased a pre-cut veggie tray at the supermarket and, even worse, I served it in the plastic tray from the store. I'm still feeling guilty about this. So I'd love to know how you feel about what I did.

Why is this important? Most of the world lives with no dishwasher and no option of serving crudites in the plastic landfill container from the supermarket.

Sometimes it isn’t easy to not let the guilt creep up on you! I am the same way – people jokingly call me Martha since I need this to be just right. I would personally be mortified to do it but don’t know that under the circumstances that I wouldn’t have done it myself depending on the situation. Don’t beat yourself up over it though!

For goodness sakes, you sound like Super Woman to me. Give it a rest, relax and enjoy life , it’s too short to sweat the small stuff!!

Thanks for the encouragement. I tend to beat myself up over the smallest things sometimes, and need to be reminded when they’re not that important!

More importantly, how do YOU feel about it?
And, did everyone enjoy themselves?
Do you think they would have had a better time if you had done things differently?
My opinion is that family and friends are more important than any of the details.

Everyone did have a good time, Shirley. And by taking a few little, uncustomary shortcuts like this, I was able to squeeze the party into my week.
