Organize a Kids' Clothing Swap Party

By , About.com GuideMarch 20, 2009

Follow me on:

There are seven girl cousins in our family, with my two daughters being the oldest of the bunch. Over the years I've watched the progression of clothing from my first to my second, down to their younger cousins and, at this point, I sometimes don't even remember the pieces that started with us when I see them on my nieces. My sister-in-law tells me her girls like to call those hand-me-downs "story clothes" because she tells them which cousin first wore them. However, not everyone is lucky enough to have older cousins, which is why a kids' clothing swap party makes so much sense. It's a fun way to get together with friends, and it's a great way to save a few bucks too.

I created an online kids clothing swap club around that same concept. It’s called GumdropSwap http://www.gumdropswap.com. A small membership fee allows you to swap the things your children have outgrown all year long instead of waiting for the next local swap. An unlike those events where you hope someone has clothing in the size you need, we always have new and like new items in all sizes.
